Follow Marcel and integrate your Matter devices with ease.
Before you begin
When pairing your Matter device with the 1Home Server there is one important thing to consider.
WiFi and Ethernet Matter devices can be added to the 1Home Server directly without any third party hardware required, besides of course your 1Home Server and a smart phone.
⚠️ For Matter devices that use Thread
however, you will have to have a Thread Border Router on hand (we are looking at ways to provide you a Thread Border Router as a part of the 1Home system, but in the meantime a third party device is needed). Thankfully, most of you already have Thread Border Routers at home in the shape of smart assistant hubs such as Apple TV, Apple HomePod mini, Google Home Nest devices or even Google Nest Routers.
Pair Matter device
To pair a Matter device, simply select the Add Device
button and choose Matter
.
You are presented with two options for adding devices. You can always use the first option to use your smartphone 1Home app and add the Matter device there. In case your device is already connected to your local network (e.g. it has Ethernet connection or it is already paired to another Matter controller such as Apple Home), you can connect it directly from the local dashboard.
If you select the to pair the Matter device with the 1Home mobile app, you will be shown a QR code that you can scan with the camera on your smart phone. The 1Home app will automatically open and it will connect to your 1Home Server in the background.
After scanning the QR code, you can easily add your Matter devices by following the instructions in the app.
⚠️ Turn on pairing mode on your Matter device
Make sure to turn on the Matter pairing on your Matter device. Most devices have the pairing enabled for the first 15 minutes after they are powered on if they are not already connected to any Matter controller. If however you have them already connected to e.g. Apple Home or Google Home, you will have to turn on the pairing from within those apps.
All paired Matter devices will automatically appear in your local dashboard where you can edit their rooms and names.
You can then see all Matter devices in your devices list together with all other (e.g. KNX, Loxone) devices.
What does the Apple Home logo mean in the image above? This simply means that the device is paired to 1Home Server as well as to Apple Home, both via Matter.
Control your Matter devices
Here is how you can control your paired Matter devices from the 1Home Server:
- Control with 1Home Automations - You can use Matter devices in 1Home Automations in the same way as you would any other devices connected to your 1Home Server.
- Use in 1Home mobile app - Control Matter devices from the 1Home mobile app.
- Share the device with other Matter compatible apps - You can easily share your Matter device with other apps such as Apple Home, Google home and others.
- Bring Matter devices to KNX & ETS
- Control Matter devices from Loxone
