Google Nest Renew + OhmConnect = Renew Home
Google is transferring its Nest Renew service to join forces with OhmConnect, creating a new entity called Renew Home. Their mission is to boost the growth of virtual power plants (VPPs) by combining Nest Renew's energy solutions with OhmConnect's platform. This collaboration aims to turn smart homes into active contributors to a more dynamic and eco-friendly energy grid. Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners is investing $100 million in Renew Home, while Google remains a minority stakeholder.
Eve Introduces Thread-Connected Energy Outlet for Smart Living
German smart home product manufacturer Eve introduces the Eve Energy Outlet, its first in-wall solution compatible with the new Matter standard and utilizing Thread for WiFi-free connectivity. The outlet features advanced energy monitoring, two switchable receptacles, and is a perfect replacement for North American-style outlets. The Eve Energy Outlet is set for release on February 6th, priced at US$49.95.

Though there are inconsistencies, especially in mid-day and evening predictions, Grid Forecast shows promise, and is an interesting asset in the toolset of a modern homeowner.
Swap and Go: Nio's Speedy EV Charging
Tired of waiting around for your electric car to charge? Maybe this whole concept is even preventing you from buying one for yourself. It's true - while modern fast chargers can charge your EV in about half an hour, it's still a noticeable difference from the three or four minutes it takes to fill up a traditional vehicle with petrol or diesel. But Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, might have the solution. Power swap stations! With 2,100 stations worldwide, including 30 in Europe, Nio's automated system is turning what was once just a sci-fi idea into a reality. We just hade to share this amazing video from Tom Scott.
